On Saturday night at the Woolston Working Men's Club two boxers from the Clifton Boxing Gym competed.

Marcus Jones (59.8 kg) boxed Ben Lewis from Temuka (58kg). Marcus stepped up from the cadet (12-14) section to compete in junior section (15-16).

Jones having his 7th bout beat Lewis (14-10) having his 17th, this was Jones' first bout for the season and it was a very good win, he showed excellent fitness and was impressive slipping the punches and counter boxing Lewis. Coach Alan Dickey was extremely impressed with the win and the fitness Jones showed in his first bout since October of last year.

Natalie Stuart  (71kg) competed against Cheynne Peck (74.8) of Burnham boxing club with Natalie winning 13- 7.
Dickey said "Even though Peck was the heavier boxer and kept trying to come forward at her,  Nat didn't fall into the trap and stand and fight. She moved beautifully on her feet and slipped and countered upsetting the rhythm of Peck.  It was a typical boxer against a fighter bout and I was pleased with the way Nat continued on from her win three weeks ago."

Clifton boxers will be next competing in Christchurch on the 12th of May then the 19th of May in the SI Golden Gloves in Timaru.
