Marlborough Boys' College has come out on top after three action-packed days of sailing action in Nelson Harbour.
Eleven crews from Nelson, Marlborough, Christchurch and Timaru took part in the Nelson Bays Youth Teams Racing Association's top of the south regatta, which finished yesterday.
Each race saw two teams of three 420s with two sailors aboard each boat racing against each other over an S-shaped course. The team with the lowest overall score based on finishing positions takes the tie.
The first round-robin competition involved all 11 teams, with the top six moving onto to race as the gold fleet, and the bottom five the silver fleet.
The winner of the gold fleet competition was Marlborough Boys' College, followed by Christchurch Boys' High School and Marlborough Girls' College.
The silver fleet competition was won by Queen Charlotte College, followed by Nelson College A and Nayland College.
Nelson College for Girls took out a girls' competition, while Marlborough prevailed over Nelson in a top of the south battle.
The first two days of sailing were tricky with variable winds caused by a southerly fighting against Nelson's northerly summer sea breeze, while yesterday saw perfect conditions of around 10 knots.
Some of the crews will go onto race at a national competition and against Australia.
Gallery covers all three days.
