Dawn Chalmers road to London 2012
Nelson boxer Dawn Chalmers is off to Barbados as she takes the next step towards her goal of fighting at the 2012 London Olympics.
She is one of six Kiwi boxers selected to take part in the Road to Barbados training camp, which leads into the sport's world championships.
The programme is funding by the International Amateur Boxing Association, and is an almost-all-expenses-paid programme for 40 boxers and nine coaches from countries highlighted as being "lesser developed".
New Zealand was selected to be part of the programme due to its isolation, and the fact no boxers attended the last world championships in China.
Chalmers will spend 2 1/2 weeks in an intensive training programme, followed by the world championships.

Kelly Woolrich was aginst Svitlana Tertychna of Ukraine, Kelly was leading 4 to 0 in first round and had just put a count on the Ukraine, and then she walked into a right hand to the temple and was out , ref stopped contest head
Dawn Chalmers was against Bianka Nagy of the Hungary. Dawn won on points 12-7 excellent bout ,Dawn rocked her with her right hand and scored points of her left. Exciting as the Hungary girl won the Europeans this year, she was interviewed after wards, by lots of reporters so I guess she was not expected to win.
Magan Maka was against Tiffanie Hearn of U S A what an exciting bout , went right down to the wire, 7-6 to USA but if Magan had got one more point she would have won on count back by 1 point. She should be very proud.
Eske ,and Siona are on tomorrow, Dawn on Monday and Alexis on Tuesday.

Hi Guys , well wasn't to be, Dawn got beaten 11-4 by the german, after beating the Hungarian girl she had gone to being favourite, was 3-3 all in the second round ,1 point behind in 3rd and she just did not fire in 4th, not sure why, she is really disapointed, but that is boxing[sport] I believe she could have beaten that girl as the girl Dawn beat first had beaten the German , but it has been a long hard trip, no excuses but had not been sleeping well and just had a bad day at the office.
Never mind , she is still our loveable and smiling Dawn, and that is why we love her so much.
Thank you so much for all your support.

Hi Guys, 3 days of competition and the Kiwis are all out,
Alexis fought very strong and very well,10-8 a good close bout, the German girl did same as with Dawn's,covered up hands high,an just walked in behind her hands so Alexis cought not get points, I don't think our Refs would let us away with it in N Z as it is like barging, but in saying that she won, we will follow the finals with interest as some one is going to show us ho wto beat it, the chinese I would ay as they have a very fast style.
We are very proud of our girls and the most interesting part is we are not far away from the best, I believe it is just experience with different styles, and before next Worlds the team has to get a couple of European bouts so we are boxing the styles we meet, the Aussies are closer to the style than us at moment, believe Aussie may get medal in 69 as she has had a very good draw, she has the easier bout to day to get into medal count, Dawn has beaten same girl 2 times, hey that is boxing.
From my point of few it has so far been an excellent Worlds, thanks to Fitzy , he has been excellent and very supportive, also to Camereon who has been a great help to Fitzy
Alan.
